Miss Iowa Juneteenth
2010 Miss Iowa Juneteenth
Contest
Miss Iowa Juneteenth will serve as an inspirational
symbol for African-American youth to:
-
focus on staying in school;
and
-
better understand the
relationship of a good education and enhanced community
relations.
The essay contest is statewide
and open to African-American female students, enrolled in
grades 9 thru 11. A scholarship assistance award will be
provided to the winner. No charge for registration.

Congratulations to Jocelyn Brown,
our 2009 Miss Iowa Juneteenth!
The
daughter of Raymond and Yolanda Brown, Jocelyn is a senior at
Des Moines East High School, where she is a student-athlete
participating in basketball, track, and cross country. She is also a
member of Maple Street Missionary Baptist Church, where she sings in
the youth choir. Jocelyn has a sister, Jazmyn, and a brother,
Raymond. Following graduation from high school, Jocelyn has
aspirations of becoming a primary school educator.
