Remembering the 2009 Church Relations Activities
Our first
2009 Iowa Juneteenth Observance activity was a gospel concert. Under the
direction of our Church Relations Committee, Co-Chair Reike Plecas
masterminded our first gospel concert, which head-lined Grammy and
Stellar artist J-Moss. The highly successful concert took place on June
12 at First Assembly of God Church in Des Moines. It is important to
note that the success of the concert is largely due to the financial
support of Veracity Financial Group and especially the following Des
Moines area churches: Cornerstone Family Church, Des Moines First
Assembly, Elim Christian Fellowship, King of Kings Missionary Baptist
Church, Maple Street Missionary Baptist Church, Miracle Life Family
Church, and Union Missionary Baptist Church. We are also thankful for
the volunteer support (Iowa Juneteenth Mass Choir, gospel dancers,
hosts, security, etc.) of more than 15 Des Moines area and Waterloo area
churches. The gospel concert is a great platform to take community
prayer and fellowship to a higher level. Our audience reflected a great
diversity of cultures and races coming together in thanksgiving for our
collective freedom. In addition to our featured national artist, J-Moss,
we had some of the best gospel talent in Iowa and Illinois such as Nate
Pointer and Lori Smith. Under Reike’s leadership, the Church Relations
Committee delivered on a promise of a great gospel concert! Make sure
your family is present at our 2010 Iowa Juneteenth Church Relations
Committee activities.
